Rules of Film Investing Fantasy League (FIFL)
1.) It’s just a game – please keep all trash talking, harassing, and other things that may be deemed questionable to a minimum – illegal activities or continued issues will result in your removal from the game. (Yes, I have to put this in)
2.) All rules are shown below in the “How to Play” section – please read carefully and follow them
3.) All decisions by the “MPAA Director” are final, they cannot be protested, challenged, and just don’t think of trying to change his/her mind.
4.) Any changes or updates to the rules shall be emailed to all participants and made notice to change in this document
How to play
Contestants will become Production Investment companies; they will have three rounds to bid upto 100% of their budget (over the three rounds) into 25 upcoming movie releases. The overall point is to make the most money, the more you have invested into a movie, and the more box office receipts (read as sales) the movie makes, you receive an equal percentage back to your account. At the end of the season (determined by the Commissioner aka MPAA Director prior to start), the overall winner will be determined on that last days box office announcements.
Bidding
Production Investment Companies (PICs) – will have the opportunity to “Bid” on upcoming movie releases over a period of time (known as “Investment Week”) – during this time there will be 3 rounds of investing.
I. Each team will receive 25% in the first round, 25% in the second round, and 50% in the third round to invest in an upcoming blockbuster release.
1. Any money not spent in the first round can carry to the second round, and any money not spent in the second round can carry to the third round. Any money not spent by the end of the third round of bidding will be forfeited.
2. Each round of bidding shall last upto 24 hours after the announced start time of bidding, after 24 hours bidding will be closed for that round.
II. Any movie will be considered a “LOCK” when investment has reached 100% for that movie
1. In the event of a “LOCK” during bidding with multiple PICs, the highest bid wins the remaining percentage
a. If there is any overage bidded, the MPAA Director will email the PIC to advise they have 24 hours to reinvest the overage
i. In the event that there is a perfect tie between bidders, the bidder that responded first will win the bid.
b. Any non-winner will have the opportunity to reinvest immediately (up to 24 hours after the MPAA Director emails them) or carry the remaining balance to the next round (see Bidding.I.1)
Review
The MPAA director will tabulate all the responses after each round of bidding and update an investment board (or sheet) – the overall numbers will be announced within 24 to 48 hours of each close of bidding. The MPAA director will use email to communicate all reviews and other information to the group of PICs.
After the third round of bidding, and the “season” has started, the MPAA Director will update the investment board on a weekly basis with the overall box office receipts for each movie that week – this is just for reference purposes only!
Winning
At the end of the “season” the final box office receipts taken on the last day of review shall be used to determine the overall winner. The winner shall be determined based upon their total investment and received box office receipts.
Example: Land of the Lost finishes the season with $100 million in box office receipts – you have invested 10% of your budget into this movie – your account will receive $10 million dollars
The winner of the game will be the one that has the most money based upon their investment and shall be titled “Master Production Movie Investor – for (insert season and year here)” and as such shall have the congratulations and adoration of all of those in the fantasy movie community.

Registration for 2010 Summer FIFL Season
There will be 10 teams (including mine) this season, if you are interested in playing please fill out the below form... the bidding (as noted above) will open during the following schedule (please see rules and note bidding will be open for 24 hours as of the below):
Round 1 = April 20th
Round 2 = April 24th
Round 3 = April 28th
Season will open on April 30th with that weekends box office numbers. The season will end on September 6th and include that previous weekends box office numbers. Again, per the rules it's the numbers that are reported on September 6th that counts to determine the winner!
Finally - remember to read the rules, once you go through three rounds of bidding there is no trading or open market exchange (it's merely just a sit back and see if it works bit of fun).
